Our Philosophy on Healthy Eating and Intuitive Eating

At Nutrition IQ we believe that most of us are born with innate wisdom about our bodies. Years of dieting and restricting can tarnish the trust we have with our eating habits and ourselves. We focus on helping clients rediscover how to eat in a way that feels nourishing and sustainable using the principles of Intuitive Eating.

Intuitive Eating is based on 10 principles designed to help you tune in to your internal wisdom and make food choices based on what feels good in your body. Unlike dieting, there's no guilt and shame associated with Intuitive Eating and you're never "on" or "off" the wagon. While it seems crazy at first (first-time clients often balk at the idea of eating whatever they want whenever they want based on their individual needs), it's often a journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

Don't Believe Me?

The research shows that Intuitive Eating has been associated with:

  • Greater body satisfaction and appreciation
  • Better emotional functioning and overall optimism
  • A higher desire to exercise
  • Increased self-worth
  • Decreased risk of eating disorders and disordered eating habits
  • Greater life satisfaction

What has Intuitive Eating Meant for Me and My Clients?

It can be scary to leave dieting behind. People often assume that when left up to their own devices, they'll eat cookies, cakes, and ice cream forever. Trust me, you won't. For me, food finding food freedom has been life-changing. It has allowed me:

  • More brain space. It's amazing what you can do when you're not constantly worried about what you can and can't eat.
  • More enjoyment when eating. Some foods just taste better when they're not wrapped up in guilt and shame.
  • Better connections. I love being able to create food memories with my kids, both in the kitchen and around the dinner table. My toddler loves to help bake and Intuitive Eating allows me to enjoy that process with her without being concerned about over-eating.
  • Increased self-awareness and empowerment. Getting curious about what foods feel good in my body allows me to trust my intuition and make choices based on how I’m feeling in the moment.
  • To be a good role model for my kids. Eating disorders amongst children are on the rise and dieting is one of the most important predictors of developing an eating disorder. Modeling a healthy relationship with food and my body is how I can teach them to do the same.
